Mentalization-based treatment
Understanding the "Why" Behind the "What"Most of us have moments where our emotions take the driver's seat. We might react impulsively, feel overwhelmed by others' reactions, or feel like we’ve lost touch with who we really are. Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) is a practical, evidence-based therapy designed to help you regain control during these high-stress moments. What is "Mentalizing"?Mentalizing is simply the ability to "see ourselves from the outside and others from the inside." It is the skill of understanding that our behaviours—and the behaviours of people around us—are driven by internal mental states like feelings, thoughts, and intentions. When we are stressed, this ability often "goes offline," leading to misunderstandings and emotional pain. How MBT Helps YouIn MBT sessions, we don't just talk about the past; we focus on what is happening right now. We work as a team. I don’t sit back as an "all-knowing expert." Instead, we adopt a "not-knowing" stance together—curiously investigating your experiences to figure out what went wrong in a specific interaction.By practicing this "mind-mindedness" in the safety of therapy, you strengthen your ability to stay grounded and thoughtful even when life feels chaotic. And as you get better at understanding your own mind, you naturally become more adept at navigating the minds of others, leading to fewer conflicts and deeper connections. The Goal The aim of MBT is not just to "feel better," but to get better at thinking about feeling. This creates a more stable sense of self and gives you the tools to navigate life’s emotional storms without being swept away by them.
